I'll Be Back!
I just want to say “Thank You” to all the voters who came out on Election Day to cast their vote for me as the next Supervisor for South Park Township. I am still very humbled and grateful to be the “Highest Vote Getter” out of ALL the Democrats, Republicans and Independents alike who voted that day at the five walk-in poll buildings with a high of 1,565 votes.
Then my victory train from all my hard work in the community, and my game plan for the future of the Township, came to a complete stop on the tracks with over 820 mail-in ballots for each of the top two individuals who won this election. I could not overcome the lead my opponents had from the mail in ballots. I was very disappointed that I did not win and congratulated those who did win with a nice personal email.
I am not a quitter and puts more fire inside to make me work harder to represent you regardless of your political affiliation as your next Township Supervisor.
In the meantime, I will still stay very active in several organizations as an active member of this great community. Especially the Lions Club as being the current President and the rest of the humble 30 members in the club. We strive to help many individuals & families in this township when we can.
In closing my fellow residents, thank you again for your support, encouragement, and belief in what we can accomplish together. Don’t worry, you will see me again in 17 months on Primary Election Day for the next Supervisor’s seat. Our township is a special place, and I’m excited to keep doing my part to make it even better for generations to come for the residents.
Sincerely,
Rich Hogya
My Vision for South Park Township
- EMS Ambulance Service – Most of our residents do not realize there is no EMS ambulance stationed in South Park during the midnight shift; the closest one is in the middle of Bethel Park. I hope to change this for swifter response times for calls particularly for calls for heart attacks and strokes, or a baby not breathing in the middle of the night.
- Zoning Concerns – I will advocate for more commercial property and less giant residential housing plans by changing the master zoning map. I personally want to preserve the Township’s “green space,” so we do not turn into a Mount Lebanon with very limited green space. I will also seek to get a grocery store and another bank in the Township.
- Community Center – We need to start planning for a large community center like surrounding communities – complete with a pool and large venue room to rent out for social events, birthday parties, and meetings for groups within the Township.
- Police Department Staffing – We desperately need a detective as well as a traffic unit. For myself and most of the residents of South Park Townhip would agree to have one police officer assigned to our three schools to assist and work with the three South Park School District School Resource Officers.
- Public Works Department – I think we need to hire additional employees for the Public Works Department whose staffing level has been static for many years. The Township has grown by leaps and bounds over the years.
- Grant Writer – I would like to consider hiring a Grant Writer to search and apply for any and all available grants to help fulfill the Township’s “Wish List.” With a limited budget, grants would be very beneficial to the Township.
- Township Dog License – I will seek to eliminate the Township dog license. With two dog parks in the County Park and the County requiring a County dog license, the Township license is redundant. There is no need for two dog licenses.
- Garbage Collection Service – I would like to explore re-starting our own garbage collection service as we did over 35 years ago. If smaller communities like West Homestead and Munhall can do it, it might work for us. Let’s put our residents to work.
- Televise Official Meetings – I think we should televise the official meetings for the Township Supervisors, Planning Commission, and the Zoning Hearing Board. Township residents should be aware of what’s going on in the Township.
Over the years, my involvement in the township has included:
- Current and very active Vice President of the South Park Lions Club for 12 years.
- Former Broughton Volunteer Fire Department fireman. Currently an honorary member.
- Former Head Ice Hockey Coach for the South Park Hockey Association.
- Volunteered as Head Golf Coach for South Park School District for 11 years. I retired in December 2024 to run for Township Supervisor.
- I have been very active in the community for many years from youth activities to adult organizations, striving to make South Park Township a better place for all residents.
